Yes, you can get a professional website using a theme!
Let’s look at Custom vs. Theme Frameworks.
Warning: This post is not for anyone with an unlimited web design budget. If you have tons of money to explore a complete custom website option then congratulations.
This is for the majority of small businesses with limited funds for a website. If that’s you, keep reading.
“I need a professional website, not one built using a theme or a framework…what’s that anyway”
“I don’t want my website to look like all the others”
“My business is unique and I need a completely custom website”
“I want a professional website but it costs too much”
If you say any of the above to yourself, you will learn as I have that you can have an awesome website for your business that also grows with you using a WordPress premium theme.
I still get shocked when I talk to people who think custom is the only way to go for a professional website.
It shocks me because I feel like they don’t know any better and I could save them thousands of dollars. At the same time, my mind is buzzing with things I need to tell them. We are not in the same website world we were in during the 90s.
Here’s the real shocker:
I was one of those people!
Yep, I thought the only way to go was a custom website.
When my husband needed a website for his business, I thought that we wouldn’t be able to get that unique look unless we got a completely custom look.
So, that’s what we did. We paid for a completely custom website with the hefty price-tag because we thought it would be the best solution for the business.
Now, the problem…It looked nice BUT the website functions did not work properly. When you pay big for a website that doesn’t function, it causes so much aggravation when you are trying to run a business.
A website is a tool to get your message and services out to the world and to earn more customers. It should not be a headache.
After about a year of paying heavily for website changes, I told my husband that I would like to redesign his website using a WordPress theme. He said, “Go for it”!
This is what I found out about Premium WordPress Themes:
First, let me tell you that I invest in and believe in premium themes with a solid support system.
If you want to know the results of my theme test, keep reading.
Themes include state-of-the-art code and smart design architecture that gets search engines to see your content.
Themes are tested and compatible on the all the modern web browsers such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Premium theme companies offer an array of beautiful themes for your content
You can select a theme that is mobile responsive. That means that the website will automatically resize to the device and you don’t need a separate website or app for phones.
A strong theme company provides unlimited support and unlimited updates. Updates keep your website strong and up-to-date with the most current standards.
When I had a complete custom website designed, it wasn’t being looked at anymore and as technology changed, the website became out-dated by the month.
Features don’t mean a thing if your site’s not secure. Premium themes adhere to WordPress security best practices.
I only use certain frameworks and I can update the code that runs in the background while keeping the look and feel of the site very easily.
Customizing a site using a theme is easy and it has clear code that keeps it running smoothly.
You can choose to mix-and-match your layout.
You gain control of your website with theme options. You put only what you want on your homepage.
Your business depends on getting your message out to the world through your website. You can publish a website much faster using a strong theme.
Premium themes do not have the custom website price tag and can give any business the tools they need to successfully run an online business.
Premium themes have live demo sites so you can see how the website will look and what functions are built in. You have to imagine it with your logo, photos, color scheme and content.
Examples of theme demos:
Custom Website Myths
- A website is easier to build from a blank page. Well, that’s what I do when I build websites with certain theme frameworks.
For example, WooThemes Canvas theme and Elegant Themes Divi Theme are both themes that I can build from the ground up. It is a blank slate ready to be built upon to display the uniqueness of any company.
- A custom website is a completely new design concept.
Again, you can get that unique design with the theme frameworks.
…because it will be filled with everything about you and no one else! Your website will be filled with your logos, your colors, your photos, your videos, your “everything”!
- You need a custom website to fit your needs.
Well, do you know what plugins are? WordPress plugins are pieces of software with different functions that can extend your website into anything you need. Plugins can pack your website with powerful features.
WordPress has a database of over 26,000 plugins. If you need your website to do something, there is probably a plugin that will do it and it can easily be installed on your website with a theme framework!
If you want a Website that is:
Has a custom Look
Kept up to date…
You can get all that with a premium theme!
One of the coolest parts of using a theme is that you can check it out in a live demo. Again, you can see how your website will look.
Maybe it’s me but I like to know what I am buying.
Think about it. When you buy anything, isn’t there a sample for you to look at and get the feel of it. That’s what a theme provides you.
How would you like to pay a nice chunk of money without really knowing what you are going to get. I know you would do the research and hire a professional but I think it’s nice to see it right away.
I know you can hire professionals to come up with multiple design concepts for you to choose from that will still cost you hundreds and then of course, that doesn’t include the actual website.
Follow the Straight Road to Your Website Success with a WordPress Theme.
There are thousands of WordPress themes to choose from plus the blank, flexible themes that allow unique custom layouts on every page of your website!
My Results of our Conversion from a Custom Website to a Website Built on a Premium Theme:
So whatever happened to my husband’s website? That’s right, I found a theme and built the website for my husband’s business.
When we hired a designer, we went back and forth with changes for a long time, paid a lot of money and in the end, a theme is working best.
I knew what the website needed and I found a theme that worked and I added the functions that he needed to grow his business.
There was an immediate increase in lead activity. I believe it was the clean, optimized code of the theme that powered its way to the top of searches.
Don’t forget that the premium themes are updated on a regular basis to the most current standards.
There were a few changes he wanted to make and there was no more waiting and billing for changes. The changes could easily be made because the layout of the theme was there and no extra code was needed.
That was several years ago and the world of websites keeps changing. I changed my husband’s business website using a premium theme that I bought that worked far better than the custom site.
A website is constantly evolving and growing and should get changed again when needed. I have changed out the theme another two times and his current theme uses a responsive layout.
And again to:
With the change to a responsive layout, there has been another jump in website lead activity. Most likely, it’s due to the fact that his website can be viewed easily from any device.
Another thing to think about is that your taste will change. Do you really want to spend $5,000 or more on a custom website when there is no guarantee that you will be happy with it two years from now?
With the way the website world changes, I love the flexibility in themes and that’s why in my opinion, themes top custom!
Super Note Here: Using WordPress allows for the look of the website to be changed without losing the content…huge time saver to you and your business.
